Finding Return Pallets in a Specific Quantity and Category: A Request Instead of a Search

How to find return pallets in the exact quantity and category you need: writing a sharp sourcing request, setting realistic target prices in words, planning lead times and avoiding the usual mistakes.

The problem with searching for the right pallets

Return pallets are usually bought wherever they happen to be listed: on boards, in auctions, on classified sites. But if you need one specific category in one specific quantity — household appliances for a large order, fashion returns for the coming season — you are often searching in the wrong place. What is available is a coincidence, and the right pallet appears exactly when the need is not urgent.

A sourcing request (German: Gesuch) is a written procurement inquiry that fixes category, quantity, target price, delivery country and deadline — the bullseye instead of the needle in the haystack. Instead of screening available lots, you describe the requirement and the sourcer searches the supplier network for it. RetourenDirekt accepts such requests from business buyers on the Gesuche page (German).

How to write a request that hits the mark

The more concrete the request, the more usable the offer. Name the category precisely: "mixed Amazon returns" is a different inquiry from "checked B-grade household appliances" or "unopened new overstock". State the quantity with its unit — pallets, containers or pieces — plus the condition that matters for your resale.

Frame the target price as a direction, not an ultimatum: "per-piece price in the range of the known tier prices" or "budget around the lower end of what is usual for this category" is enough if you do not want to commit to a figure. The more honestly you describe your resale channel — market stall, online trade, export — the better the proposed lot fits it. The two elements many forget: delivery country and deadline. Both decide which suppliers qualify at all.

Realistic target prices — thinking in words

The most common mistake in requests is a target price that breaks every supplier's calculation. Returns are cheaper than new goods, but not free: procurement, handling and logistics all cost money. As orientation, checked and sorted goods cost noticeably more than unfiltered raw stock, new overstock sits above unopened returns, and large units come cheaper per piece than single pallets.

For every category the same rule holds: the realistic resale price on your channel is the yardstick, not the RRP of individual items. A request aligned with that yardstick produces offers you can actually calculate with — not rejections.

Planning lead times correctly

A request is not a magic shortcut: first comes the offer phase — with RetourenDirekt the answer within 48–72 hours with one concrete offer or a clear no. After that, the actual procurement needs its time depending on category and supplier location, until the goods reach you. Plan the full route from request to ramp, not just the last mile of transport.

For deadline-critical needs, put the latest acceptable date into the request — the sourcer can then include only network partners who can hold that window. Flexibility on the deadline, in contrast, widens the choice and usually improves the price.

Think of the delivery country too: within the EU customs formalities disappear, but longer distances and coordinating with the carrier stretch the delivery chain. A good sourcer asks about delivery country and unloading options on their own — if nobody asks after your first submission, that is a warning sign.

Typical mistakes that kill offers

The recurring stumbling blocks are always the same: quantities without a unit ("a lot of goods"), categories that do not exist as a procurement class, target prices detached from market reality, and missing company details because the inquiry was meant to stay anonymous. A sourcing service works exclusively with business buyers — without a company name and contact details there is no offer.

Equally counterproductive: scattering several requests across many providers and then taking the first best signature. Better one cleanly written request with one sourcer who has a real network — and a clear answer when something is not possible.

Describe your requirement on the Gesuche page (German): category, quantity, target price, delivery country and deadline are enough to start.

Frequently asked questions

Can I source single pallets through a request?+

The sourcing service is designed for deals from €5,000 goods value. For smaller needs, buying directly from the regular pallet assortment is the faster and cheaper route.

How precise must the target price be?+

A direction is enough — for example orientation on the known tier prices of the category. If you state no target price, you receive a realistic price indication with the offer.

How fast does a request turn into goods?+

The offer arrives within 48–72 hours. Delivery afterwards depends on category and supplier — plan the total lead time from the start.

Why do I need to provide company details?+

The service is exclusively for businesses. Without a company name and contact details no binding B2B offer can be prepared.
